[THOMAS (Hugh Owen)]
Contributions to Surgery and Medicine. Part I. Intestinal Disease and Obstruction.
London: H. K. Lewis, [1883]. First edition, 8vo (210 x 125 mm), [6], vi, 284, xvi, 5 lithographed plates, each with explanation leaf, numbered 1-5, ex-Birmingham Medical Institute library, with several neat faint ink stamps, presentation label from the author, gathering loose, inner hinges shaken, orig. cloth, head and foot of spine chipped. "Not all Thomas's therapeutic precepts... originated with him, but he was the first to apply them in a rational and systematic manner and to make them the basis of his treatment. He published his methods, illustrated by numerous case histories, in his Contributions, issued irregularly in parts between 1881 and 1890 [not numerically]; the works eccentric mode of publication guaranteed its obscurity".—Norman. Garrison & Morton, 4348; Norman, 2070.
