Small isolated damp spots to fore-edges, unobtrusive minor fading to cloth edge. Much remaining of scarce fragile dust-wrapper but in four pieces lacking spine area. See image. Isaac Emmanuilovich Babel ????? ???????????? ?????? 1894-1940. The translation of the New York edition (August 1929) attributed to Nadia Helstein, has different pagination, and different text to dust-wrapper. "Stranger still is the unexplained fact that Helstein\'s 1929 translation is apparently identical to a translation attributed to a translator named John Harland, published in London the same year by the same publisher" (Vinokur, 2016). Title page verso : "The stories in this book first appeared separately in various Soviet papers and magazines. They were published in book form with the title Konarmia in 1923 by the Moscow publishers ?Raduga\' and then by the State publishers in 1926. This translation has been made from the third, revised,(1928) edition of the latter publishers." .

This four-volume catalogue, published between 1848 and 1854, was compiled ‘during the leisure moments of a life of almost incessant scientific research’, by the eminent Swiss-born American systematist, geologist and palaeontologist Louis Agassiz (1807–73). The bibliography was corrected, enlarged and edited by the English geologist, ornithologist, naturalist and systematist, Hugh Edwin Strickland (1811–53). It was one of the most comprehensive bibliographic works of its time. It provides an extensive list of the zoological and geological literature available before publication of Darwin's On the Origin of Species (1859). Today the bibliography offers a map of the intellectual landscape that influenced early evolutionary theory and other scientific advancements. ISBN 9782503509648. ¶ L'essence Perlee du Secret est un corpus d'instructions rDzogs chen rattache au personnage clef de cette tradition dans l'ecole tibetaine dite des Anciens (rNying ma pa): l'illustre pandit indien Vimalamitra. Jusqu'a tres recemment, cette tradition etait consideree comme relativement jeune et ses pretentions historiques douteuses, voire trop remaniees et reorganisees a date tardive pour etre reellement credibles. Neanmoins, certains elements contredisent maintenant cette vision fortement influencee par les ecoles reformees du bouddhisme tibetain et tendent au contraire a la crediter de l'anciennete a laquelle elle a justement droit. Ces elements demontrent ainsi que la formation des cycles d'instructions rDzogs chen sont bien plus anciens qu'on ne le croyait et surtout qu'ils nous presentent un etat de cette litterature deja parfaitement structure a date ancienne, suggerant ainsi serieusement l'origine indienne que la tradition leur attribue. Une boucle est donc bouclee lorsque la critique tibetologique occidentale parvient a justifier ou confirmer l'anciennete avouee par la tradition elle-meme. Dans le domaine de la philologie et de l'histoire litteraire, cette anciennete a des consequences de taille car tout le lexique qu'on jugeait jusqu'alors comme une innovation post-dynastique nous apparait petri d'une antiquite seculaire qui rend plus complexe encore l'origine de ce genre litteraire dans la tradition Bon po. Les phenomenes d'intertextualite entr Bon po et rNying ma pa prennent alors une importance considerable et une portee encore peu soupconnee dans l'evolution de ces deux ecoles. Languages: French.
