We are very interested to hear you are going to Golspie, we know that part very well + we shall be glad to have counts from Loch Fleet + anywhere else. There is no-one up there who helps us. We are most excited about your autumn migration notes + should like, very much, to have details of species etc for comparison - we hope they will be published somewhere. We are most grateful to your for all the notes you have sent us from Tongue + shall look forward to hearing from Golspie where we hope you will be very happy. Yours sincerely, Evelyn V. Baxter + Leonora Jeffrey Rintoul.'The second letter is dated the 7th June 1953, reading as 'Dear Dr Pennie, How kind of your to write: thank you so much for your sympathy. It does help to know that Miss Rintoul's work + personality are so widely appreciated. We shall miss her badly. Again many thanks for your kindness, Yours v. sincerely Evelyn V. Baxter&apos. This touching letter follows Rintoul's passing on the 22nd May 1953. Dr. Ian Durance Pennie was a Scottish ornithologist and physician, who co-founded the Scottish Ornithologists' Club. He contributed essays on a variety of important journals.A chronicle of the history, present distribution, and migration of all the birds of Scotland, trailing around the beautiful country from the south-west up to Caithness. The authors, Evelyn V. Light marks to the rear board of Volume II, with a small patch of cockling to the fore edge. A few scattered spots to the fore edges and spots. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Dust wrappers are edge worn with small closed tears, heavier to Volume I. Aged taped to the head of the wraps of Volume I. Dust wrappers are discoloured and spotted, including some spotting to the reverse. Light blue marks to the rear wrap of Volume I and to the front wrap of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound.
