In the original French.Second edition, scarce to see an early edition.Illustrated with an engraved title. The religious, ethical, and educational reflections of Jean-Baptiste Morvan de Bellegarde. This volume include five of Bellegarde's dialogues, discussing the misfortune of libertine life, the different duties of each state, the dangers of conversation, and the strength of spirit in misfortunes. Bellegarde was a Jesuit for fifteen years before joining Francis de Sales's order. In a full calf binding. Externally, worn, with rubbing to the boards and spine, and loss to the front joint, rear joint, and tail of the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Light marks to the boards. Tail of the spine is lifting a little. Front hinge is starting but firm. Pencil annotation to the front free, which is lifting to the tail. Ink notes to the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .

A very scarce copy of this article surrounding the medieval neoplatonic Arabic work, 'The Book of the Apple', published in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society. First edition.Presented by the editor. Bound in a contemporary half crushed morocco with marbled boards, with the publisher's original paper wraps bound in. Published by the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, an academic journal founded in 1824 which still runs today, publishing articles on the history, art, language, literature and religion of countries in Asia. This article is comprised of 'The Book of the Apple', a medieval neoplatonic Arabic work of unknown authorship, although occasionally attributed to Aristotle. Its date of publication is also unknown, predating the 10th century. This particular edition is edited and with notes in Persian and English by orientalist and Professor of Arabic, D. S. Margoliouth. Bound in a contemporary half crushed morocco with marbled boards, with the publisher's original paper wraps bound in. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to the joints and a little fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with coloured pencil note to the first blank, and an ink inscription with the date of publication to the title page.
