- Important Considerations Respectfully Addressed to a Distinguished Female Invalid and Published with a View to the Benefit of Other Patients at the Bristol Hot-Wells

Bristol, J Mills and Co, c1810. Leather. A very scarce treatise regarding Bristol Hot-Wells and the treatment of patients. Undated, Worldcat states the date to to be c1808. However, 'The Monthly Repository of Theology and General Literature' from 1810 mention the work in its 'New Publications in January' notices. This work opens with a note from the Rev T- S- Rector of A*** S*** near T*** in Oxfordshire, to a friend in Bristol. The first and only edition of this work. 'The following paper was dictated by sentiments of sincere grief that no direct public regard has hitherto been awakened by the recent Moralities at the Bristol Hot-Wells&apos. This work is addressed to a lady who was bereaved at the age of twenty three, of an illustrious and fond husband. Being inconsolable with grief she visited the hot wells for its healing water. The Bristol Hot Wells were warm compared to Bath which is the only place in Britain that can claim hot springs. However, was said that the water in Clifton tasted much better. The Hotwells spa was developed into a fashionable resort from 1695 by the Bristol Society of Merchant Ventures. It was a place for the rich and famous until the 1790's. It was claimed that the Spa could cure Tuberculosis and was visited by John Wesley in 1754. A very scarce work. In a full calf binding. Externally, smart. Patches of rubbing to the boards and spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Prior owner has neatly removed the top of the title page. Small closed tear to the first page of the preface, not affecting any text. Internally, firmly bound. Prior owner has added words to a sentence on page 17. Pages are bright. Just the odd spots. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
