WELCOME to Le Flaneur, a second-hand bookstore specializing foremost in books that "survive the test of time": Literature, humanities and sciences in several languages including English, Dutch, Turkish, German and French, along with a number of select books in Latin languages. \\\\ WINTER HOURS: 11:00--18:00. Sundays we start at 13:00. Heavy or constant rain may also affect opening hours. \\\\ Please don't forget to check your JUNK MAIL folder, I always respond in 24 hours.

Le Flaneur prefers and strives to remain as a physical establishment rather than an online seller, and its loyalty lies with frequenters and chance visitors. Thus, in principle, books are cheaper in the shop, and a select and increasing part of the collection is not available for distance selling. Le Flaneur also recommends to buy local, physical, and loyal, since he believes every act including the act of buying (or not buying for that matter) is political which deserves consideration and reflection.

Books you inquire and/or order are reserved up to a week and then relisted. Orders can be picked up from the shop, preferably with prior notice.

We send worldwide if we really have to, but we encourage you base your decisions on total costs including "externalities", rather than jumping to the cheapest option, since it never is.

There is no clear legal global rule for returns; but as a rule of thumb we don't accept returns, as we abstain from engaging any discussion over the vague and incredibly personal concept of satisfaction, and from contributing to needless entropy in personal and universal levels. We believe in goodwill and presume people has the potential to act responsibly and reasonably. If you think what you received fails to match its description, you keep the book and get your money back.

A note on description: Page numbers indicate numbered pages. Please always keep in mind the age of books when checking book conditions. Books are thoroughly checked and depicted in as much detail as possible (thus the shorter the depiction, the better the book). If there is no depiction, which is the case with some of the earliest additions, please ask before ordering. Also feel free to ask for photos when in doubt.

We also BUY "worthy titles" for which you cannot find room at home. Literature, history and philosophy titles in several languages are most welcome.

All books are in good condition, unless otherwise stated. Negligible defects, which can be considered as normal for antiquarian books, are not always mentioned.
Prices are in Euro incl. VAT and excl. postage and encashment costs. Despatch will be executed at the best possible way, generally by standard postparcels. Air shipment only on client's request. Seller reserves the right to register or insure the parcel at buyer's expense. Shipment is at seller's risk.
Payments by giro- or bank transfer to our bank account. We also accept Visa- or Mastercard payment by PayPal.
Orders per e-mail, telephone or regular mail will be executed in sequence of arrival. You receive soonest possible a statement of the available books and the amount involved, including the costs. Despatch only by prepayment.
Books that do not match our description can be returned within a week after receipt and after previous consentment. Returns for other reasons also after previous consultation and within a week after receipt.
Books remain our property until full payment is received.

Alle boeken zijn in goede staat, tenzij anders aangegeven. Kleinere onvolkomenheden, die als gewoon voor een antiquarische boek kunnen worden beschouwd, worden niet altijd genoemd.
Prijzen zijn in euro, incl. BTW en excl. verzend- en bankkosten (indien van toepassing). Verzending geschiedt voor rekening van cliënt op zo voordelig mogelijke wijze, meestal per (pakket)post. Luchtpostverzending uitsluitend op aanvraag van cliënt. Verkoper behoudt zich het recht voor de goederen op kosten van koper te verzekeren en/of aangetekend te verzenden. Verzending is voor risico van verkoper
Bestellingen kunnen schriftelijk, per fax, e-mail of telefoon worden geplaatst en worden op volgorde van binnenkomst afgehandeld. U ontvangt zo spoedig mogelijk een opgave van de beschikbare boeken en de kosten. Levering geschiedt bij vooruitbetaling.
Betaling per giro- of bankoverschrijving. Visa- en Mastercardbetalingen kunnen geaccepteerd worden via PayPal.
Boeken die niet aan de beschrijving voldoen kunnen binnen een week na ontvangst en na voorafgaand overleg worden geretourneerd. Retourzendingen om andere redenen eveneens na voorafgaand overleg en binnen een week na ontvangst.
Boeken blijven ons eigendom tot volledige betaling is ontvangen.

Verkoopvoorwaarden

Boeken worden aangeboden mits onverkocht. De volgorde van binnenkomende bestellingen wordt strikt gerespecteerd.
De boeken verkeren, tenzij anders aangeduid, in normale antiquarische staat. Kleine gebreken, zoals een naam op het schutblad of lichte beschadigingen die normaal zijn voor gebruikte boeken, zijn niet altijd aangegeven.
Bestellingen kunnen via het formulier maar zij kunnen ook per e-mail, telefonisch of schriftelijk worden geplaatst.
Een e-mail wordt gestuurd ter bevestiging van de beschikbaarheid & reservering en met vermelding van het netto te betalen bedrag (met details over de verzendingskosten).
Betaling dient voor levering te geschieden. Bestelde boeken blijven 10 dagen gereserveerd, in afwachting van de betaling.
Bestelde boeken blijven eigendom van de verkoper tot de volledige betaling is geschied.
Betaling kan per bank of giro. Voor betalingen binnen Europa kunt u gebruik maken van de IBAN of BIC code. Betalingen buiten Europa kunnen via Paypal.
Vermelde prijzen zijn in euro’s; de prijzen zijn inclusief 6% btw, exclusief verzend- en/of verzekeringskosten.
Alle verzend- en eventuele betalingskosten en kosten voor verzekering zijn ten laste van de koper. Verzending gebeurt op risico van de koper. Verkoper houdt zich het recht voor goederen te verzekeren en/of aangetekend te verzenden.
De koper heeft het recht binnen 7 dagen te retourneren zonder opgaaf van redenen. Een voorafgaande kennisgeving per e-mail wordt op prijs gesteld. Het aankoopbedrag wordt exclusief de gemaakte verzendkosten binnen 30 dagen geretourneerd. Retourneren geschiedt op kosten van de koper.
Is de retourzending een gevolg van onvolledige beschrijving dan wordt het aankoopbedrag inclusief retourporto en verzendkosten gerestitueerd. Retourzendingen dienen de verkoper in dezelfde staat te bereiken als waarin ze aan de koper werden verzonden. Het risico van retourzendingen ligt nadrukkelijk voor de afzender.

Refunds: Money refunded if notified within 7 days of receipt; book must be returned in condition sent. If book is as described, and returned for some other reason, than all shipping will be paid by buyer and only book price will be refunded, upon return receipt of book. If I made an error all costs, including shipping both ways, will be refunded. I try to be extremely thorough and honest in my book descriptions, but....people are people and on rare occasions an error or oversight can occur. In such a case, I always make good on MY mistake; you are not stuck paying for my mistake.

Packaging: I use clean, recycled materials whenever possible, to reduce expenses. I pack books very thoroughly, so that they survive the vagaries of the US and international postal systems in good order; arriving safely, and as described. For US domestic orders, I use USPS Delivery Confirmation forms on all books, shipped in US, others when possible; these provide a handy tracking mechanism which I share with the purchaser.

Shipping Prices: I endeavor to ship same day as payment is made when possible Monday through Friday.
Shipping prices are as close as possible to actual cost of postage and materials. I do not try to profit on shipping, merely to cover my actual costs. I have no control over the shipping rates set by US Postal Service, and charge what they charge.

However, since I don't want to hold a book for too long, if I don't hear back from you within 5 calendar days, I will return the book to available inventory.
Ordering a book with the above situation constitutes agreement with this policy.
Domestic [USA] shipping times are approximate: 3-6 business days for priority, 5-20 business days for media mail [I have recently been informed that media mail can now take from 30-45 days. You will have tracking information so you can follow it. For shipments to Hawaii and Alaska, as well as any US Territories or other US Mail recipients, media mail delivery time can range from 4-24 weeks, Air/Priority 5-10 business days. I ship domestic orders with a "Delivery Confirmation" on them.

Express Shipping:
Price quoted upon ordering. Buyer must supply a zip code + 4 for shipping; this type of zip code [9 digit total] is required by the Post Office.
Foreign orders: typically, but not always, 5-15 business days for air. Since May 2007, surface shipping is no longer be available--the US Postal Service has eliminated this option. All international orders will now be shipped by airmail. I have no control over the package once I mail it, and customs officials/departments in the receiving country can greatly delay the delivery time. You will receive the customs numbers upon shipping. I ship books daily Monday thru Friday. Shipping days are counted as business/working days; they do not include holidays and weekends.
Express mail fees start at: eps. 44.95, medium box 79.95 again ask for postal quote if the book is oversized or heavy.

We send all our books on approval and we gladly accept returns for any reason in like condition within 30 days of purchase.
We now post only via DHL as weight for weight it is a very similar cost to recorded mail, but is fully tracked and much more reliable. This gives next day delivery to places as far afield as New York. Price is based on an average book weighing 1kg. if your book is very light it may be less, or more for sets and the like that are heavier.
