A vanishingly scarce copy of the twenty-fourth report investigating a number of charities in England and Wales in the early nineteenth century. First edition. Vanishingly scarce. The twenty-fourth report given by a group of commissioners who were appointed to investigate two acts of parliament, being: "An Act for appointing Commissioners to inquire concerning Charities in England, for the Education of the Poor""An Act to amend and Act of the last Session of Parliament, for appointing Commissioners to inquire concerning Charities in England, for the Education of The Poor, and to extend the Powers therof to other Charities in England and Wales". Originally passed in 1818 during the reign of King George III, these acts aimed to improve charitable foundations, with the report of 1831 undertaken to determine the acts' progress. Discussing charities from Durham, Huntingdon, London, Suffolk, Surrey, Worcester and Bedford, as well as the notable mention of Ashton's Charity and Almshouses. Lacking pages 213-480, which would have contained information on the the County of Salop. Illustrated with two plates, as called for. Bound in full modern cloth. Externally, excellent, with a few marks and light rubbing to the extremities. Endpapers renewed and blanks retained. Tide mark to front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned, with a few spots. Final hundred pages, including plates, have a black mark to the center of the page, from fire damage, although text remains readable. This damage has caused the affected area to be a little delicate, with a few small chips. Portion of title page has been excised, not affecting text. Lacking p213-480. Ink to contents page, crossing out the pages lacking. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
