(late 1800s); 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/2; glass ink reservoir, enclosed in a tin box; lid with hinges and a spring-button; covered in black morocco with gilt manufacturer's name; a few tiny rust spots; a small puncture along one of th ehinges; cork stopper appears to have been replaced at a later time; in good condition. In the late 19th century, with the great expansion of steamship and train travel, portable, miniature inkwells became indispencible articles of travellers, together with quills, envelopes, sealing was, etc. They were made of porcelain, cut-glass, silver, or as is the current case - mixed metal , glass, and leather. Good .
