The work contains no instructions or lessons in singing, but is simply a collection of songs for practice and recreation. It extends to six Nos, forming a rather extensive collection, embracing a large number of the best German melodies, united to suitable words, with many from American and other sources, together with a larger proportion of the home songs of our own country than it has hitherto been usual to admit into simi- lar collections for children's use. No pains have been spared to obtain good and pleasant melodies, and to unite them to suitable verses. It has been a special object, also, to make the harmonies flowing and singable, while at the same time effective and musician-like.".
