This was originally released in 1755 to great aclaim. Hervey had a lasting impact on art through William Blake, who was an admirer of his. Blake painted Epitome of James Hervey's Meditations among the Tombs, he is also mentioned in Blake's work as one of the holy guards to the 'four-fold gate', and his influence on Blake's poem The Tyger has also been noted. CONDITION Marbled bds with leather spine and cnrs, some rubbing with wear to spine ends, paper to rear bd of Vol 2 has some loss in two places, Marbled to all edges, Vol 1 pp vii 567 with 2 illus plates (mostly bright and crisp, though some toning especially to one section near the rear that contains the illus due to different paper stock, contemporary name inside front, crease to the last two pages) Vol 2, pp 500 with name inside front, nice crisp copy with a little toning.
