Three scarce editions of 'The Army List', this set including the volumes for July 1871, April 1883, and April 1898.'The Army List' was a monthly publication detailing all members of the military, from general and field officers to aides de camp to the Queen, to medical departments and chaplains. These three volumes span the mid- to late-Victorian era, spanning a total of 27 years. The publication offers a very detailed insight into the British Army. July 1871 has the original front wrap bound in, and sixteen pages of adverts to the rear, lacking the rear wrap. April 1883 and April 1898 are not bound with the original wraps or title pages. Extensive index to each volume. Rebound in a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Spines are a little faded. Light rubbing to the cloth. Some minor marks to the boards. A detailed historical account of the campaign of Adrien Maurice de Noailles, 3rd Duke of Noailles, a French nobleman and soldier during the War of Austrian Succession in 1743. Having previously distinguished himself in the War of Polish Succession, he was made a marshal of France in 1734. Serving the in the War of Austrian Succession, he was appointed to command the French forces in March 1743. Though defeated at the Battle of Dettingen, he and his forces successfully drove the Austrians out of Alsace-Lorraine. Bound in full brown calf. A handsomely bound and very scarce commemorative work on the Dreadnought, British submarines, and torpedo destroyers, with numerous colourful tipped-in plates. A beautifully bound early twentieth-century commemorative work on British naval ships and diving submarines.Originally, this work was not for publication, and works such as these were often given out as commemorative gifts following Royal Naval visits or launches. This particular copy contains illustrations and information about the 'Dreadnought', submarines, torpedo destroyers, and the Main Fleet. The Dreadnought was a battleship first launched by the Royal Navy in 1906 as the H.M.S. Dreadnought. It was so influential that all battleships created subsequently were referred to as 'dreadnought types' and earlier battleships were called 'pre-dreadnoughts&apos. This work contains fourteen tipped-in photographs, six of which are in colour. Including one photograph of the 'Dreadnought', five photographs of diving submarines, two photographs of torpedo destroyers, and six illustrated plates depicting the Main Fleet in Home Waters ('Dreadnought' types). Collated and complete. Beautifully bound in full royal blue calf with gilt detailing and satin endpapers. Bound with wooden boards, the wood taken from the H.M.S Royal George. A work accounting the life of the H.M.S. Royal George, a first rate gun ship in the Royal Navy. The ship sunk in 1782, when it was anchored at Spithead to take supplies to go and relive Gibraltar. The ship sunk and lost more than eight-hundred lives. In this work, the anonymous authors recounts the sinking of this ship. The author also talks about Major-General Charles Paisley's 1839 attempted to clear the wreckage of the ships. His operation included breaking up the wreck using barrels of gunpowder. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three plates. Collated from Copac from a copy held at the British Library, complete. In the original publisher's quarter calf with wooden boards. Externally, the front board is detached. Cracks to each board, repaired by a prior owner with tape. A couple of marks to the front board, and a small rectangle of wood removed. Pages from front endpaper to frontispiece are detached from the textblock, and have been taped to the fore edge of the front board by a prior owner.
