A beautifully bound early twentieth-century commemorative work on British naval ships and diving submarines.Originally, this work was not for publication, and works such as these were often given out as commemorative gifts following Royal Naval visits or launches. This particular copy contains illustrations and information about the 'Dreadnought', submarines, torpedo destroyers, and the Main Fleet. The Dreadnought was a battleship first launched by the Royal Navy in 1906 as the H.M.S. Dreadnought. It was so influential that all battleships created subsequently were referred to as 'dreadnought types' and earlier battleships were called 'pre-dreadnoughts&apos. This work contains fourteen tipped-in photographs, six of which are in colour. The ship sunk in 1782, when it was anchored at Spithead to take supplies to go and relive Gibraltar. The ship sunk and lost more than eight-hundred lives. In this work, the anonymous authors recounts the sinking of this ship. The author also talks about Major-General Charles Paisley's 1839 attempted to clear the wreckage of the ships. His operation included breaking up the wreck using barrels of gunpowder. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three plates. Collated from Copac from a copy held at the British Library, complete.
