New York, Dodd, Mead, & Company, Publishers, 1901. 1901 (?). Hardcover. Color-illustrated boards with black cloth spine. Pink end papers. 46 pp. with bw frontis and bw illustrations throughout. Various stories and poems include the Tea Party, The Fall from the Aple Tree, The Little Brother, Mabel\'s School, Come into the Meadows, Fighting for Life, The Petrel, Reynard the Fox, An Indian Camp, Two Wood Scenes, and more. May be the same content originally published individually in Lippincott\'s Magazine and then published together in this volume by Dodd, Mead in 1901. Good- (Text block good, clean, and tight but detached from binding. Free end papers faded at margins and with other general wear. Spine cloth very thin. Covers quite good for age with with some wear to edges and some darkening, but board illustrations still clear.

Includes a prefatory note by "D. W." dated 1856, the only clue to the publishing date of this book. A collection of stories for children aged ten to fourteen that "a Christian parent may safely place in the hands of his child, with the assurance that while it will amuse his leisure hours and improve his understanding, it will neither deprave his imagination nor corrupt his heart" (from the prefatory note). Fair (Moderate wear to cloth and boards. Corners bumped. FFEP torn out. Foxing and dampstaining throughout but very readable.) .

Excelsior Diary: Columbian Edition, 1893 [Personal Day Planner]
[Chicago?], 1892. Hardcover. Brown flexible leather, gilt edges all around, 200+ pp. 24 BW illus. pp. A mostly blank pocket-sized day planner, evidently printed in honor of Chicago\'s World Columbian Exposition in 1893. Has the number "163" printed on the front flyleaf. The first section of 24 pages are printed with an 1893 calendar, monthly almanacs, basic U.S. facts, and summaries of the Exposition exhibits. Each of the pages in this section has an engraved border and carries an engraved illustration at the top: of U.S. sites or events, or of Exposition buildings. The remainder of the book is comprised of lined blank sheets for writing daily diary entries, addresses, memoranda, or personal accounts. The user of this book was literate and had a quirky bent to humorous stories and philosophy, but he/she was not an avid recorder. Only 19 pages include handwritten entries on them. Places mentioned in Pennsylvania: Oil City, Franklin, Emlenton, Foxburg, Pittsburgh. In West Virginia: Tyler County, Littleton, Mannington, Wheeling, Monongalia County, Bladesville.
