Jackson, Lesley
The Sixties: Decade of Design Revolution
London, Phaidon Press, 1998. Hardcover. Yellow cloth boards with black stamped lettering. White and color-illustrated dust jacket with black lettering. 240 pp. Mainly color illustrations. This text concentrates on the design and architecture of the 1960s. It traces the transition from the "contemporary" design of the 1950s to the pure geometry of "the look" and the styles that proliferated throughout the momentous events of the decade to the proto-high tech developments of the 1970s. In all fields of design - architecture, ceramics, glass, textiles and furniture - the popular cultural explosion and the consumer boom generated visually stunning and colourful images and fashions. Products of the most prominent designers and manufacturers are shown in contemporary photographs and advertisements from the period. Design in the Sixties represented energy and fun; it was dynamic, cheap and cheerful and it prompted a consumer "youthquake" revolution. Op Art fabrics, plastic chairs, inflatable houses, mini skirts, paper furniture, pop glass and psychedelic posters were part of the design phenomena. -Jacket. New .

Massimo Mariani: Progetti 1980-2005
London, Verbavolant, 2005. Hardcover. black boards. 232 pgs w/ color & bw illustration. pictorial dustjacket. Italian and English. The architecture and design of Massimo Mariani is characterized by intriguing forms and bold colors. Objects designed by Mariani have won several awards and have been displayed in galleries and museums throughout the world. Mariani’s varied architectural projects include private residences, museums, and corporate offices. Massimo Mariani: Progetti 1980–2005 covers the first twenty-five years of activity by this Tuscan designer. Included are his early works done with Studio Stilema, which was dedicated to realizing experimental furniture, and projects from the heart of his career, which has been focused on interior design and architecture. Often Mariani’s commissions are for buildings in banal suburban settings but his expressive architecture incorporates color and luminosity to counterbalance the surroundings. The architect also applies this methodology to his interiors resulting in spaces that are bright, open, and animated. The book includes an introduction by architecture critic Lara-Vinca Masini that reconstructs the cultural context of Mariani’s work, beginning with his experiences in the sixties and seventies with the Radical Architecture movement in Florence.--from the Publisher. Morel, Julien, Alberto Pinto: World Interiors
Morel, Julien
Alberto Pinto: World Interiors
Paris / London, Flammarion, 2011. Hardcover. plush pictorial boards w/ white printing. 253 pgs w/ color illustrations. A nice, bright copy. Lavishly illustrated. "In this sumptuous book, Alberto Pinto excels at creating a perfect harmony of volume and space by bringing fresh inspiration to established design principles. He assembles an unprecedented range of styles by merging his client's tastes with his own flair for creativity. With an unobstructed view of a white sandy beach and shimmering turquoise water, a sprawling apartment in the exclusive Ipanema enclave of Rio de Janeiro is decorated in subdued earth tones, punctuated by animal prints and vibrant works of modern art. The interior of a classical orientalist residence in Kuwait reveals elaborate marble tile and wood details, while more modern spaces are furnished predominantly in black and white with judiciously placed accents in red. The details in a Monaco apartment subtly remind us that the home is perched above the Mediterranean Sea, while an ornate white-and-blue residence in New York is distinctly European in its rich use of antique furniture, ceramics, and ornate moldings. Other striking and sublime spaces include a palace in Riyadh and a home in Santa Rita, as well as grand yachts and private jets. Pinto's Parisian workshop, where his exceptional furniture and tableware can be purchased, is also featured."--WorldCat. VG (light scratches to boards. bumping & creasing to corners.) .

Vedrenne, Elisabeth
Pierre Paulin
Paris, Assouline, 2004. Hardcover. broad boards. 78 pgs w/ illustrations. white pictorial dustjacket w/ black printing. content as follows: One of the mythical figures of French design, Pierre Paulin became famous for designing President Georges Pompidou\'s apartment in the Elysee Palace and furniture for the Louvre. Championing "integrated design", he created a new relationship with interior architecture. His Mushroom, Tongue, Ribbon, Tulip, and Orange Slice chairs - all made of foam covered with colored jersey - offer a range of shapes that are rigorous yet organic, functional yet voluptuous. Paulin\'s designs perfectly symbolize the sixties and seventies and foreshadow the evolution of design. They have become cult objects, embedded in our collective unconscious. Vertova Ludovica, Maria
Pavimenti Lignet in Europa
Milan, Italy, Electa, 2005. Hardcover. black cloth boards w/ white spine printing. 203 pgs w/ bw & color illustrations. glossy pictorial dustjacket. Text in Italian. The author deals with an architectural feature that has been studied very little in Italy: the wooden flooring that embellishes the palaces of Central and Northern Europe, from Piedmont to Russia. The period under examination extends from the Middle Ages to the present. Today, in fact, modern techniques combined with the discerning tastes of great architects make it possible to create various types of superlative floor decoration. The book is divided into four large sections, each devoted to a particular type of flooring: wooden boards, especially the oldest preserved in Europe; decorative panels, first used in Versailles and later in many seventeenth- and eighteenth-century palaces; inlay, inspired by the outstanding Italian intarsias; and geometric flooring, introduced in the eighteenth century and widely-used in bourgeois homes throughout Europe. The illustrations, some of which were especially commissioned, reproduce the finest examples of the art of flooring in striking detail. There is also a section covering the more technical aspects, such as the various types of veneering and their diffusion, laying and installation techniques, restoration and conservation.--From The Publisher.
