A Newspaper History of the Recent Strike
New York, , 1894. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Size: 8vo 8" - 9" tall. A perfectly serviceable reference copy of a collection of pro-Capital, anti-Labor, anti-union pronouncements on a then "recent" strike involving the American Railway Union; nothing fancy, but complete and reasonably sturdy, being simple printed wraps, staple-bound, a bit chipped at extremities but clean; ink-stamp of former owner at front cover, coffee-cup ring at rear panel, radiating waffling there. Published in 1894, it assembles articles and op-eds from the New York Sun, New York Tribune, and the New York Evening Post. Almost the entirety is a pro-Capital, anti-Eugene Debs rant. The Wikipedia entry devoted to the two interrelated strikes in 1894 notes that it "shaped national labor policy in the United States during a period of deep economic depression." One strike was in 1894 by the American Railway Union against the company that made the Pullman railroad cars. It failed, but then the ARU launched a national strike "that lasted from May 11 to July 20, 1894" which ground freight and passenger traffic to a halt West of Detroit, Michigan (Wikipedia).
