A substantial 'Universal Repository' offering a practical collection of receipts, the most interesting of which have international origins - Turkish coffee, soy sauce, and curry powder among the recipes described here as well as German egg soup and an Arabian method of preserving eggs. Also with hints on gilding, varnishing, fowling, brewing and perfumery, as well as remedies for 'bile indigestion and giddiness', 'gout and rheumatism', and a 'salve for a green wound, a burn or a scald&apos.Anonymously penned. Loosely inserted to this work is hand-typed pamphlet dated 1939 titled 'Salop County Council Agricultural Education Sub-Committee: Cultivation of Special Vegetables and Salads' and a charming pop-out bookmark-style menu from a 1928 dinner held for "The Most Noble Order of Crusaders". Bound in half calf, with marbled boards. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and fading to the boards. Cracking to the front joint, which is strained. Internally, front free endpaper is detached but present. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the occasional spot, heaviest towards the front and rear. Creasing to the last few leaves. Good .
