- Tableau de la Suisse Saxonne, Ou Du Pays Montagneux Sur la Rive Superieure de L\'Elbe, Et Des Parties Limitrophes de Boheme / Voyage Pittoresque de Saxe

Dresden / Leipsig, Arnold / J. C. Hinrichs, 1826. Hardcover. Three-quarters blue marbled boards with leather spine and corners, gilt letters and decorations on spine, ca 200 pp. 13 BW plates. Text is in French. Two books were at one time bound together into this one volume, carrying the spine title: "Guides de la Saxe." Both books are about early travel into the region called Saxony, preceding German unity and the boundaries we know today. The first (1826, 125 text pp.) begins with a BW plate and describes travel along the Elbe River and into the Swiss part of Saxony. It concludes with a small fold-out topo map of "Die Sachsische Schweiz," that marks even the tiniest towns and natural features. The second (1804, 55 text pp.) describes a picturesque trip to Meissen. It concludes with 12 BW engraved plates of sites and scenes to be found along the way. A unique glimpse at the past, to be sure. G (Moderate wear to spine & edges of binding; flyleaves are tanned inconsistently; interior pages carry some light foxing, text and plates are still generally clear.) .
