Food Facts for the Kitchen Front: A Book of Wartime Recipes and Hints
London, Collins, 1941. Paperback. A very scarce wartime recipe book put forth by influential Minister of Food at the time, Lord Woolton. A very scarce World War II cookbook, with a foreword by Minister of Food, Lord Woolton. In the publisher's wraps. Undated, dated from an identical copy held at the British Library. Offering a series of simplistic and ration-friendly recipes, including the widely shared Woolton pie, a pastry dish of vegetables created by Francois Latry and commended to the British public by the Ministry of Food. Recipes also include a 'War and Peace' Christmas pudding, minced meat roly, oatmeal bread and potato pastry. This publication coincides with Lord Woolton's arguably most influential marketing ploy, a BBC radio programme aimed primarily at housewives entitled 'The Kitchen Front', which was broadcast six days a week.  In the publisher's wraps. Externally, very smart, with minor edge wear and scattered spotting visible to the white text. Glue attaching the front and rear hinges coming away, however contents are internally firmly bound. Pages are age toned, but generally clean, with the odd spot. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
