London, Privately Printed , 1853. Hardback. A privately printed political work from David Urquhart, in which he discusses the 1852 London Protocol and the schism of Denmark and the Duchies. Privately printed. A very scarce copy. A discussion of the recently signed London Protocol of 1852, an international treaty which affirmed the integrity of the Danish federation and where duchies of Schleswig (a Danish fief) and Holstein and Lauenburg (German fiefs) were joined by personal union with the Kingdom of Denmark. Together with a second edition printing of 'Denmark and the Duchies', with notes on the assassination of the Sultan, Austrian occupation of the Duchies etc.Written by David Urquhart, a British diplomat and politician. Throughout his own piece, he makes his opinion of this treaty known, renouncing it as a scheme to set aside the Danish succession and aligning it with his notably anti-Russian views. Also included for reference is an article from The Times announcing the treaty and a protest of the Prince of Schleswig-Holstein. With a dual-spread genealogical table. Collated, lacking a second folding genealogical table. Bound in later paper covered boards, with spine label. Externally, excellent, with minimal signs of shelf wear. Small bookplate of one Richard Luckett to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with toning and a light spotting to the first and last few pages.
