A collection of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Each volume contains two of these classic tales. Volume one contains twenty-seven tales, including: The Dog and His Shadow, The Lion and The Mouse, and The Hare and The Tortoise, amongst others. Volume two contains twenty-nine tales, including: The Fox and The Grapes, The Farmer and His Sons, and The Kid and The Wolf, amongst others. With illustrations from Ernest Gristet, a French-born painter and illustrator noted for the humorous interpretations of his subjects, and Joe Burton, a British artist and illustrator. In the original quarter cloth binding with paper boards. Externally, smart with light wear and minor sunning to the extremities. The odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound.
