William Copeland Borlase (1848-1899 was an antiquarian, writer and politician; he was an expert on Cornish archaeology, in particular from the Iron Age.This work describes his journey around the world between 1874 and 1875, accompanied by John Hucklebridge and Fleetwood Sandeman; after the journey, Sandeman, a scholar and wine merchant, donated some forty items discovered during the trip, found on the northwest coast of North America.They travelled to the USA, Egypt, Russia, China, Singapore, Japan, Constantinople and Smyrna, among other places.Contains one plate of illustrations, as well as a vignette illustrated title page. Lacking a frontispiece.This copy was presented 'With the author's kindest regards&apos.A very scarce work. In a full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with bumping to the head and tail of the spine and a mark to the front board. Author's inscription to the title page.
