ACUFF, Roy (1903-92). - Signature and Inscription. The "King of Country Music" was a Tennessee fiddler and singer who founded the Smoky Mountain Boys in the 1930s, joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1938 and remained an influential figure there for decades; in 1942 he co-founded the first important Nashville-based country music publishing firm and in 1962 was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
