Antwerpen, ( no printer - most probably widow of Petrus Jouret ), 1746, poster size 31 x 24,5 cm (margins of poster cut away), with a woodcut nead vignet ( Royal French coat of arms and woodcut initial ( 30 x 30 mm). The document is tipped on a large contemporary sheet measuring 51 x 37 cm. Provenance: From a large album of similar documents and legal broadsides collected and bound in by the Antwerp Jesuits in the 18th c. The albums were auctioned in Antwerp in 1996 ( Collection Prof. Walter Couvreur ). Subject: The printed poster was intended as a shop poster to indicate the physical place were the sale of gunpowder was to take place. When in 1746 the French troups under Maurice de Saxe invaded the Southern Netherlands ( Austrian war of Succession) the private use of guns and ammunition was severely restricted. The sale of gunpowder was a monopoly of the invading troups. The document refers to ordinances proclaimed by the \'\'Monseigneur l\'Intendant de Flandres & des Armées du Roy\'\' from 14-07-1744 and 13-07-1746. Extremely rare document. .
