Map endpapers of the Empire of Napoleon in 1812. 16 illustrations. Sergeant Bourgogne served with Napoleon's crack troops, the Guard in his campaign in Russia. He fully describes the disastrous campaign and the final retreat. He survived the campaign and was commissioned as second lieutenant on his return and saw action in Prussia. At the battle of Dessau in 1813 he was wounded and captured and was released the following year. In 1830 he rejoined the army and was appointed Adjutant in Valenciennes, a post he held for the next 20 years. L. Fine/Near Fine.
