MINISTER EPHRAIM SCOTT - Autograph Card and Printed Images of Preeminent Conservative Canadian Presbytarian Minister Ephraim Scott

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Non-Book. On offer are three items signed by Canadian Presbyterian Minister Ephraim Scott (1845-1931). First a newspaper clipping of a photograph of Rev. Scott with his signature in blue ink at the bottom. Second, a larger print of the same photograph on white photostock, signed in the lower margin. Finally an autograph card bearing his signature of “E. Scott”. Reverend Ephraim Scott was a Canadian Presbyterian minister serving the Maritimes and later in Montreal. Holding several Doctorates of Divinity from Colleges in Halifax and Edinburgh, he was also an accomplished journalist and editor, founding the magazines Maritime Presbyterian and The Children’s Record. In Montreal he served as editor of the Presbyterian Record, carefully using the publication as a platform for his own and others similar views of conservative evangelicalism and anti-establishmentarianism. He generated some controversy over his years for his views, balancing his own beliefs with the church’s official line. But his position didn’t keep up with the times and he lost support of the youth. Ultimately, having outlived his wife and children, he spent the remainder of his life frugally in rooms at the central Young Men’s Christian Association in Montreal. The newspaper clipping measures 3-½ x 3-¾ inches, is age-toned, and in Good condition. The photo print measures 4-½ x 7 inches, has two old vertical folds, is moderately age-toned, and in Good condition.
