Spine faintly sunned; pale sticker residue at bottom of spine. Bottom corners bumped, and small dent on side edge of back cover. Owners' inscription and bookplate on front pastedown and faint spotting on rear endpaper. Light foxing on main pagesand a few corners turned, but otherwise, text clean and bidning tight. An anti-Catholic book compiling various articles about alleged intrigues of the Jesuits ("Ultramontanes") with special attention to the doctrine of papal infallibility. Contains a "Report on the Constitutions of the Jesuits" by M. Louis Rene de Caraduc de la Chalotais; a chapter alleging Jesuit intereference against France in the Franco-Prussian War; extracts from magazine articles about Jesuit activities in the United States and Great Britain; and translations of various papal and diplomatic writings.
