Volume 59 of THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, containing all issues from July 8 through December 30, 1871. Includes reporting on the celebrations surrounding the 100th anniversary of Sir Walter Scott's birth, the opening of the Mont Cenis railway tunnel, and the Great Chicago Fire. Among the many fine engravings is a two-page spread of a scene from the Passion Play at Oberammergau, and depictions of burned Chicago buildings. Measures approx. 16" x 11.75.
