The spines and edges are scuffed, and the endpapers lightly chipped. The cover of volume III has been repaired. On volume IV, the covers are detached, and there are occasional light pencil marks in the margins. Pages securely attached across the set. Illustrated with numerous black and white engravings. Volume I includes a two-page color map of Boston. .
