Full leather, front cover is detached, leather is rubbed and with surface cracking on the spine and is worn on rear joint and corners, remnants of blind decoration is still clearly visible. Text block binding is sound, inside covers do not have pasted down end-papers so insides of board showing. Front inside cover has two pasted labels from Ampleforth Abbey Library. End-papers are darkened and previous owner's name is at the front and small inked number. Prelims show a water-stain that is not visible in the main text. page 65 has a mark from a deposit in the margin, pages are a little darkened but are otherwise clean, text and decorations (headers, footers and capitals) are clear.
