Lessing joined Magnum Photos, the world-famous photographer's cooperative, in 1951. Working chiefly for Life, Paris Match, Picture Post, Epoca and Quick Magazine, he documented political events in post-war Europe, particularly in the former Communist countries. He covered the Hungarian Revolution, several summit meetings and President Charles de Gaulle´s visit to Algeria. Wer seine hintergründigen, Alltag und Atmosphäre dekuvrierenden Serien über Berlin, Budapest und Prag gesehen hatte, hätte eigentlich weder vom Ungarnaufstand noch vom Bau der Mauer noch vom Prager Frühling überrascht sein dürfen. Seine Porträts von alltäglichen Situationen, von internationalen Politikern wie Chruschtschow, Golda Meir, Kreisky, de Gaulle, Figl, Adenauer oder Künstlern wie Herbert von Karajan oder dem befreundeten Helmut Qualtinger zählen zu Ikonen des kollektiven Gedächtnisses. - Any item may be returned within 7 days after receipt without further explanation. After that restitution of the purchase-price (but not of the dispatch-costs) will take place. If the item is returned because of an inaccurate desription, the dispatch-costs as well as the return-costs will be restituted. In both cases prior notification by e-mail will be appreciated.
