Amsterdam, senza note tipografiche, 1768, 4° (cm. 29,5 x 23,5) legatura mezza pelle coeva, dorso a cinque nervi con titoli dorati, ormai sbiaditi, in tassello, pp. 164-(4)-15 ("Catalogue des jacintes connu en 1767") con una bella e grande vignetta incisa in rame al frontespizio e 10 tavole calcografiche di Jacob Van der Schley ripiegate fuori testo. Questo raro trattato di Saint-Simon (1720 -1799) descrive la coltivazione dei giacinti nell\'Olanda dell\'epoca ed è un quadro affascinante della competizione in atto nel produrre sempre nuove varietà di questi fiori. L\'autore era egli stesso appassionato coltivatore e, dopo essersi ritirato dalla carriera militare, acquist˜ una fattoria vicino a Utrecht, ritenendola ideale per i suoi progetti. Lo Hunt fa notare che l\'opera diede un importante contributo allo sviluppo di queste coltivazioni, e che annota oltre 2000 varietà, il doppio di quelle conosciute prima della sua pubblicazione. Spellature, cuffie restaurate; internamente fresco e puro, con margini amplissimi. Doppio ex libris al contropiatto anteriore: G.K. Cowlishaw, il grande collezionista australiano, e di Thomas Westwood (il poeta?). Edizione originale con dedica autografa dell\'autore al frontespiziio: \'Le Marquis de Saint Simon auteur de ce livre l\'offre à son ami Monsieur Bischop, comme temoignagne de son amitié. The 6 parts of this book were published between 1767 and 1770, translated by P. Boddaert from Pallas\' Miscellanea Zoologica or Spicilegia Zoologica. This copy is a title issue of the original 6 parts in which the first two leaves of each part have been replaced by a newly printed subtitle to present the whole as one publication.
