Johnson.After Samuel Halkett's death in 1871, the materials he collected for a dictionary of anonymous literature were given to John Laing. Laing enlarged the collection but passed away before the work was published. The work was then edited and published by Laing's daughter.This set comprises volumes I to VI (published 1926 to 1932) of the main volumes, which contain the alphabetically arranged dictionary, with a supplement to the rear of volume VI. In addition, this set includes volume VII (published 1934), which contains the index (by authors, initials and pseudonyms) and the second supplement. Two extra volumes, not included in this set, were later added in 1956 and 1962. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, smart, with very light shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are untrimmed but very bright and clean. Dust wrappers are generally smart, with light chipping to the wraps, more so to the head and tail of the spine, and closed tears to the flyleaves. Light marks to the wraps and sunning to the spines of the wraps. Scattering of spots to the spines of the wraps to volumes II-VI. Two tape repairs to the rear of the wrap, and a loss to the tail of the spine of the wraps, to volume IV. Ink mark to the front of the wrap to volume V. Fine . Ill.: Not Stated. Fine/Very Good.
